I just wonder why we do not see more crude oil stored in bolted panel tanks? It would appear to be a competitve option to the more conventional EFRT with respect to design, installation and maintenance. Do we know what the limitations are - diameter, etc?

So I guess the answer to my question could be that if the operator required API bolted panel tanks then open top is not an option and a fixed roof bolted tank would have a limited capacity of 10,000 Bbls.

Since posting I have been informed that API 12B covers fixed roof tanks used at oil production fields and are limited to 10,000 Bbl capacity. Also that an Amendment to API 12 B was being processed to include open top bolted panel tanks but was not completed. So I guess the answer to my question could be that if the operator required API bolted panel tanks then open top is not an option and a fixed roof bolted tank would have a limited capacity of 10,000 Bbls.

I can remember one open top bolted tank, but it was used as a waste water digestor type tank.

The bolted tanks can be larger than 10,000 with the approval of the purchaser, however it cannot be a API 12B monogramed tank.
The bolted tank is a good design but has fallen out of favor. If the stored material needs full corrosion resistance the bolted tank can ne fabricated with fully coated panels that does not have the coating failure issues of field applied coatings.

There are some suggestions that bolted tanks may not be able to handle products with high vapour pressure?

These are atmosphere tanks. They are not designed to hold pressure. The gasket material needs to be compatible with the stored product. Bolted tanks have been around a long time. They replaced the wooden tanks. And are still used in crude oil storage. ANd they can be fitted with IFRs when needed.

A bolted tank can have much better corrosion resistance because they are factory coated and with reasonable care during erection have low construction coating failures.
People got used to bolted tanks and the people selling them seemed to carve out their niche and left it there. I dont see how a welded 10,000 BBL tank with a IFR can compete cost wise against a bolted tank as the 10K BBL tank can be erected much faster than the welded tank. But I dont spend other peoples money.

My view of bolted tanks is people got away from them because welded steel tanks were able to be installed quicker after fabrication. They required less people on site for installation and were price comparible.A bolted tank can have much better corrosion resistance because they are factory coated and with reasonable care during erection have low construction coating failures.People got used to bolted tanks and the people selling them seemed to carve out their niche and left it there. We will begin by examining the main features of bolted square panel tanks, highlighting their modular design, ease of assembly, and excellent storage-to-footprint ratio. The discussion will then focus on some potential limitations, such as cost and maintenance accessibility, providing a comprehensive overview of this type of storage tank.

Next, we will investigate the attributes of bolted round panel tanks, outlining their inherent benefits in terms of structural integrity, resistance to leakage, and simplicity of installation. Additionally, we will discuss considerations such as space requirements and limitations in customisation to ensure readers gain a complete understanding of round panel tank solutions.

Lastly, we will share valuable insights on how ATM Tanks can support you in choosing the ideal panel tank solution for your particular project, as well as provide top-notch design, installation, repair, and maintenance services to ensure that you get the most out of your chosen storage tank. Stay tuned as we compare and contrast these versatile and robust panel tank solutions to help you make the best decision for your storage needs.

Key Features and Advantages of Bolted Square Panel Tanks

Bolted square panel tanks are widely used across various industries for their versatility and efficient use of space. These tanks feature a modular design, which allows for ease of assembly and disassembly. This particular attribute can be advantageous when relocating the storage tank from one site to another, making them a popular choice for temporary or changing storage requirements.

Another key advantage of bolted square panel tanks is their excellent storage-to-footprint ratio. These tanks can hold significant quantities of fluid while occupying minimal space, making them an ideal solution for projects with limited available space. Additionally, square panel tanks are known for their flexibility when it comes to customising the tank&#;s dimensions, ensuring optimal utilisation of the available area.

Potential Limitations of Bolted Square Panel Tanks

Despite their numerous benefits, bolted square panel tanks do have certain limitations. One potential drawback is their susceptibility to increased maintenance requirements due to a higher number of compartments, requiring more attention to inspect for leaks, corrosion, or structural weaknesses. Larger tanks may also necessitate more complex pipework and support systems, which can add to maintenance costs and efforts.

Another potential limitation lies in the higher cost of bolted square panel tanks. The customisation options and modular nature of these tanks can potentially lead to increased material and labour expenses in comparison to their round counterparts. However, it is crucial to weigh the benefits of customisation and efficient space utilisation against any potential cost differences when selecting the appropriate storage tank for your project.

Key Features and Advantages of Bolted Round Panel Tanks

Bolted round panel tanks excel in providing unparalleled strength and structural integrity. Due to their cylindrical shape, these tanks can evenly distribute pressure from the stored contents along their curved walls, resulting in a robust structure that is less prone to failure or leaks. This inherent strength is one of the primary reasons numerous businesses and industries rely on round panel tanks for vital storage needs.

Additionally, bolted round panel tanks have simpler installation and assembly processes compared to their square counterparts, often resulting in lower costs and faster completion times. Moreover, the cylindrical shape and homogenous structure of round panel tanks allow for efficient containment of high water pressure, making them an excellent choice for applications requiring large storage capacities and pressure resistance.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Round Panel Tanks

While bolted round panel tanks showcase numerous benefits, it is important to note their limitations and considerations when selecting an appropriate storage solution. One potential downside is the requirement for additional installation space, as round panel tanks may not offer the most efficient use of limited areas. Additionally, customisation options for round panel tanks may be more limited than those of square panel tanks, as altering the dimensions can have significant implications on the stability and strength of the structure.

Due to their structural design, bolted round panel tanks may also require more extensive excavation and site preparation efforts in comparison to square panel tanks. It is essential to assess the site and installation requirements of your specific project before opting for a round panel tank solution.

Conclusion

Bolted square and round panel tanks each possess distinct advantages, features, and potential limitations. The ideal choice for your specific project will depend on various factors, including storage capacity requirements, installation space, maintenance accessibility, and budget considerations.
